New players' guide
Welcome aboard, captain. Beyond The Horizon is an age-of-sail MMO. You trade cargo between ports, hunt pirates, fight in sea battles, explore wild islands and climb every skill to 99.
1. Make your account
Register on the website (or in the game). One account works on both: the same username and password log you in to the game, the shop and the account portal. You can also sign in with Google or Apple on the website.
2. Create a character
Pick a name, a look and one of eight classes: Warrior, Archer, Mage, Necromancer, Battle Priest, Paladin, Rogue, Mesmer, Constructionist, Monk, Reality Weaver, Field Marshal, Rageologist, Deadeye, Shadow Dancer. Then choose your first ship:
- Adventure ship: Coastal Sloop: the fastest and nimblest, for explorers.
- Gunship: Gun Sloop: a heavier hull with twelve guns. Hits hardest.
- Pirate ship: Black Sloop: black sails, a big crew for boarding, fast.
- Trade ship: Coastal Trader: twice the hold, slower, few guns. For merchants.
3. Port Saltmere
You start in Port Saltmere. Talk to the townsfolk (walk up and press F): the merchant buys and sells, the armourer sells gear, the banker keeps your items safe, the shipwright sells and repairs ships and the harbour master sends you to sea. The guild masters for the Maritime, Trade and Adventure guilds hand out quests.
4. Your first fights
Walk out of the town gate into the Saltmere Hinterland. Click a creature to attack it. Your number keys fire your skills. Start with the Bandit Thugs at Cutpurse Camp.
5. Go to sea
At the pier, board your ship. Steer with A/D, raise and lower sail with W/S, drop anchor with X. Open the world map with M. Buy trade goods cheap where they are made and sell them in another port. Read the Sailing and Trading guides.
6. Gather and craft
Every skill is open from the start. Buy a rod and bait for fishing, a hatchet for woodcutting and a pickaxe for mining. Light fires with a tinderbox and cook your catch.
7. Explore
Every island has hidden places that pay Dablooms when you find them, a boss, and usually a jumping puzzle with a chest at the top. Beyond the home seas lie the far regions and the Wild Seas.
